Alida Ivanov Gallery is happy to present the gallery’s premiere exhibition with Allen Grubesic’s “Disnintergration”.

For his first solo show with the gallery, Allen Grubesic has used his vision and sensibility to create works which evoke personal states of melancholy, decay and surrender. He continues to question the accepted boundaries between the authentic and the copies of the authentic. In the show this can be seen clearly, for example ”Another Masterpiece”, in which an edition of 10 depends on different colour combinations to create a new original.

The show title derives from a word play between “Disney” and “disintegration” which alludes to the child’s naïve belief that everything will become a disnified world of dreams and then growing up to discover that life has something else in store. The ambiguity of these words can be seen as a sort of balance between light and dark states of mind, success and failure, comedy and tragedy, malaise, hopes, wanderlust and the expanded emotive consequences thereof.

Although most of the work presented in the show is chromatically reduced to black and white, they range a spectrum of media, methods and expressions. The exhibition explores complex personal states, paralleled with equally complex worldly states. The pieces are often charged with a dark sense of humour and melancholic beauty.

Allen Grubesic continues to explore and challenge artistic convention in his work by presenting a variety of mediums and expressions. Since his graduation from The Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm in 2003, Grubesic has produced a polyform body of work in painting, sculpture, installation and video that has made him one of the most interesting and diverse Swedish artists of his generation.

Alida Ivanov Gallery’s intention is to present contemporary art in whatever form it comes in, regardless whether it is considered established or emerging. The gallery’s primary focus lies on exhibitions, but it will also present performances, artist talks, screenings, book releases, among other events. Alida Ivanov Gallery works both independently and collaboratively in order to present a wide-ranged and inspiring program.
